1974 - 2020

Le groupe de rock américain des années 1970, les légendaires, Jefferson Starship, formé par d'anciens membres de Jefferson Airplane, est de retour avec ‘’Mother of the Sun’’, leur premier album depuis 12 ans.

Entre 1974 et 1984, Jefferson Starship a sorti huit albums studio, tous disques d’or ou de platine et près de 40 singles dont 9 d’entre eux ont atteint le top du Billboard Hot 100.

Du line-up d’origine il ne reste plus que David Freiberg (chant, guitare acoustique) qui a souhaité poursuivre malgré le décès de Paul Kantner en 2016. Le groupe est complété par Donny Baldwin (batteur), Cathy Richardson (chant), Chris Smith (basse, claviers) et Jude Gold (guitares).

C’est donc un retour particulièrement attendu, notamment par les fans américains du groupe d’autant que plus que l’album inclut un titre co-écrit avec la légendaire chanteuse Grace Slick (retirée du monde de la musique depuis plusieurs années) et un autre titre co-écrit avec le guitariste Marty Balin, malheureusement décédé en 2018. On notera également la présence de l’ancien bassiste, Pete Sears sur 3 titres.

Guitariste américain, né en 1947, mort en 2012 ; atteint d’un cancer de la prostate, il préféra se suicider d’un coup de fusil

Il débuta comme accompagnateur avec Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs et Edgar Winter. Il fonda le groupe "Montrose" en 1973 avec le chanteur Sammy Hagar, le bassiste Bill Church, et le batteur Denny Carmassi, leur premier disque fut édité en 1974. Il y eut plusieurs changements dans le groupe qui demeurait très populaire. Séparation du groupe en 1982 et début d’une carrière solo, puis formation d’un nouveau groupe "Gamma" qui aura également des hauts et des bas. en 1988, ils mirent au point un son spécial, mélange subtil de soul, pop, métal, jazz.
